About the Socceroos

The Socceroos are Australia's men's national football team and one of the most recognised sporting brands in the country. Managed by Football Australia, the team competes within the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and carries the hopes of Australian football on the international stage. The squad is assembled from a mix of A-League-based talent and players plying their trade at clubs across Europe, Asia and beyond.

Australia have appeared at six FIFA World Cup tournaments -- in 1974, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 -- with the current qualifying campaign focused on securing a place at the expanded 2026 tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. World Cup qualification remains the highest priority for the national team programme and generates enormous public interest across the country.

The crowning achievement for the Socceroos came in 2015, when Australia won the AFC Asian Cup on home soil, defeating South Korea in the final at Stadium Australia in Sydney. That triumph cemented the nation's standing within Asian football and remains a high point for the modern era. More recently, the Socceroos reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar, demonstrating continued competitiveness at the continental level.

Beyond World Cup qualifying and the Asian Cup, the Socceroos participate in FIFA Series friendlies and other international windows throughout the calendar year. These matches serve as vital preparation for tournament football and give coaching staff the opportunity to assess emerging talent alongside established internationals.
