NBA All-Star Weekend tips off Friday. Intuit Dome. Los Angeles. Brand-new USA vs World round-robin format. But the Australian storyline that has dominated the trade deadline belongs to Jock Landale. Traded twice in 24 hours. Sensational Hawks debut. Here is everything.

All-Star Weekend: New Format

New format confirmed. For the first time, the All-Star Game on Sunday February 15 features three teams in a round-robin tournament — two USA squads and one international team.

USA Stars (younger stars, coached by J.B. Bickerstaff): Scottie Barnes, Devin Booker, Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Anthony Edwards, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Johnson, Tyrese Maxey

USA Stripes (veterans, coached by Mitch Johnson): Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, Norman Powell

Team World (coached by Darko Rajakovic): Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Karl-Anthony Towns, Pascal Siakam, Jamal Murray, Deni Avdija

No Australian players selected this season. Josh Giddey was in the early conversation before his hamstring injury.

Jock Landale: Traded Twice, Starred Immediately

One of the most remarkable stories of the NBA trade deadline. Landale was traded from Memphis to Utah on February 3 as part of the Jaren Jackson Jr. deal. Then flipped to Atlanta for cash considerations just one day later. Twenty-four hours. Two trades.

His Hawks debut on February 5 — against Utah, of all teams — was spectacular: 26 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks on 10-of-14 shooting (5-of-8 from three). Instant revenge against the team that barely held his rights for a day.

Landale had been producing career-best numbers in Memphis this season. Averaging 11.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 38% from three.

Australian NBA Player Updates

  • Josh Giddey (Chicago Bulls): Out with a recurring hamstring injury since January 28. Coach Billy Donovan says he is “ramping up” and expected to return after the All-Star break. Had been averaging career highs of approximately 19 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists before the injury.
  • Dyson Daniels (Atlanta Hawks): Questionable with right ankle inflammation. Coming off last season’s Most Improved Player award where he averaged a league-best 3.0 steals per game.
  • Ben Simmons: Currently a free agent, training in Los Angeles. Reports suggest he could sign with a team around the All-Star break, with Sacramento, New York, Golden State and Minnesota among interested clubs.
