Team lists are in. The NRL released official Round 1 squads on Monday, and the Las Vegas triple-header on February 28 now has names attached to jersey numbers. Several storylines cut through the noise.

Cowboys vs Knights — Spine Talent on Display

Kalyn Ponga is back. The Newcastle Knights fullback has not played a competitive match since Round 17 last year after a foot injury that required extended rehabilitation. His return immediately elevates this fixture. Ponga at full fitness changes how defences structure their line, and his combination with new halves pairing Dylan Brown and Fletcher Sharpe — both cleared after hamstring concerns — gives Newcastle a spine that demands respect.
