There’s genuine interest from Collingwood in Hawthorn key forward Mitch Lewis, per Zero Hanger — and the timing is pointed. Lewis turned in a stellar first half last weekend, and his stocks are only moving one way right now.

What makes this one worth watching is the framing around Hawthorn’s response. Hawks coach Sam Mitchell has publicly insisted contract conversations are “going okay,” which is the kind of language clubs use when they’re more nervous than they’re letting on, not when they’re relaxed. Zero Hanger has Lewis flagged as a Collingwood free agency target — that’s a specific label, not vague noise.

The list logic isn’t hard to follow. Collingwood have had a real-bodied key forward vacancy since Mason Cox became a role player, and Lewis — elite marking, contested possession work, good movement for his size — fits what Craig McRae wants at the top of the structure. Hawthorn, meanwhile, are rebuilding around a younger spine, and Lewis at peak value represents the kind of trade leverage that doesn’t come cheap.
