SEALED NRL Dane Gagai signs one-year Broncos deal for 2027
1 year
Dane Gagai has signed with the Brisbane Broncos on a one-year deal for the 2027 season. The signing was confirmed by the Broncos in late June, ending the centre’s second stint in Newcastle after the Knights opted against offering him a new contract.
The terms, as reported: one year, 2027, back at Red Hill where his NRL career began. It takes the 35-year-old into a 17th season and past his 11-year association with the Knights, split around a four-season stretch at South Sydney.
Brisbane’s recruitment manager Simon Scanlan, in the club’s announcement: “The Broncos are very excited to see Dane making a return to Red Hill in 2027,” adding that “his form this season has been outstanding” and pointing to the value of experienced professionals around the club’s developing outside backs.
Newcastle’s side of it was equally plain. Coach Justin Holbrook: “You can’t keep everyone, and that’s just part of our game.” The Knights’ call was a list-shape one — younger outside backs get the runway, and a veteran centre still in form gets to pick his landing.
From the pub-ledger view, this is a signing that suits everyone: Brisbane buy a year of proven Queensland-bred class without touching their long-term cap structure, and Gagai gets a homecoming on merit, not sentiment — his 2026 form made the case for him. No fee involved, as with all NRL player movements; the deal is club-confirmed and this card is Sealed.
